Academic qualification
For admission to the Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, candidates should be passed by Physics, Chemistry and Maths in 12th. BE course is of 4 years, the Chennai School of Ship Management under the ATS program gives 3 year degree in Marine Engineering.

Type of Courses
Courses such as B.Tech and Diploma in Marine Engineering are available. In addition,
admission to three-year BSc course can be taken. Almost all institutions gives admission on the basis of entrance tests. Admission in Mumbai-based TS Chankya get through  IIT - JEE. After BE candidates can do ME and PhD studies in this field. Marine engineering courses  all the details of operation related to ship construction, ship maintenance and ship travel are described.

Personal qualities
Candidates should be interested in technical work. Candidates must have good physical fitness. Candidate also must meet specified criteria of this field. Should have good command over English language.
